Seventh graders in Dennis Township celebrate the holidays with a Victorian-themed classroom party. After reading "A Christmas Carol" in class, the students research Victorian era history, culture, etiquette and fashion and then work in groups to design costumes and plan the party. Sipping tea or hot chocolate from fine china teacups with snacks of homemade lemon squares and other goodies, the students enjoy the party as a culmination of their academic work.
"We always have a great time with this unit," explains Amanda Unkle, 7th grade language arts teacher. "The students this year have been really excited about it and they all came in looking and acting the part." Unkle and 7th grade math teacher Ashlee Symanski are both in costume as well.
