Obliteration Station

During School Safety Week, Ms. Bassetti and Mrs. Keininger collaborated on a project with the Elementary School students. In art class, the students learned about the artist Yayoi Kusama and her Obliteration Rooms. With Ms. Bassetti, the students created a gigantic Obliteration Station by brainstorming all of the ways in which kids can be unkind at school and writing those words/behaviors into the station. The goal in creating the station is to actually use our kindness to obliterate all of the unkindness by using Yayoi’s dot technique. When students show kindness, compassion, and/or respect they can earn a ticket from one of their teachers. They can then turn their ticket in to Ms. Bassetti or Mrs. Keininger for dot stickers to place within the Obliteration Station. The dots are a symbol of their kind acts. This project is a great visual representation of all of the kindness that is shared on a daily basis at school and it is a positive reminder to lead and act with kindness. #dtschoolsrock
